There is an story going around that states that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is planning for a major event in Region Three on approximately October 1, 2013.

Region Three consists of the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

An article from the Sleuth Journal, and various other online sources, ostensibly based on an email from an elderly former State Senator from South Dakota, talks about FEMA and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are spending millions of dollars on antibiotics, heater meals, millions of pouches of drinking water, among other things.

Although this article may scare you at first, look a little deeper, and you’ll find a lack of consistency with some basic health facts.

Senator Sheldon R. Songstad

The article states that, “Following the bread crumb trail of FEMA orders, retired State Senator Sheldon R. Songstad of South Dakota State issued an “Emergency Fema Region 3 Alert!!!,” on August 13th.”

Retired Senator Sheldon R. Songstad, a Republican served from 1971 to 1978 and then again from 1985 to 1988 for a total of twelve years in the South Dakota State Senate. But was it really Senator Sheldon R. Songstad that compiled this information? Let’s look at the timeline of events.

  1. August 2, 2013: Someone using the pseudonym CyberWarrior posts a video of the compiled “facts”
  2. August 13, 2013: Senator Sheldon Songstad allegedly sends an email with the exact same “facts” and no reference to the video to unnamed persons.
  3. August 17, 2013: Various websites begin to ‘report’ the ‘facts’ stated in the alleged email.

Possible MERS Infection?

So could the “big event” be MERS, the novel coronavirus? The article states, “The Center of Disease Control ordered $11 million worth of antibiotics. Where are they going? FEMA Region lll. When are they due? October 1st. This coupled with the fact that the World Health Organization held an emergency meeting, its second such meeting in its history, to discuss MERS Coronavirus. This is quite unsettling. The WHO determined that a vaccine MUST be in place by October 1st.”
