Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13

One of the downsides of tablet computers is using the touchscreen to try and write, especially for a beginner.

You can connect a keyboard, but then you need to find a way to stand the tablet up. Laptops offer the keyboard, but are much bigger and heavier. The Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 answered all these problems with a transformer-style setup that has four modes:

1. The first is as a standard laptop, with the accessible keyboard.

2. In the second mode, the screen flips all the way back to create a tablet computer.

3. In the third mode, the computer stands up like a tent.

4. In the fourth mode, the keyboard is laid flat on a table and the screen stands upright.

The Ideapad runs on Windows 8 but the problem that some people may have is that it costs $999.

Google Nexus 7

It shouldn’t be surprising that the Google Nexus 7 is on our list of 5 coolest gadgets from 2012. So many customers raced to get the 7-inch tablet that the Google online store crashed, leaving thousands disappointed. The tablet sold out within hours and there is a reason for it: it is just that good.

The tablet computer runs on Google’s Android 4.1 but can be updated to 4.2 – those who buy now will receive the 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system. It has a quad-core processor and excellent graphics that are perfect for watching videos and playing computer games. The device is lightweight for travelling and using in school or at work. Best of all, the price is affordable for those on a budget at $199 for a 32GB memory.

2012 Tech: Year in Review

There have been many new tech ‘toys’ released in 2012, including Microsoft’s Surface tablet, which runs the new Windows 8, the Nokia Lumina, and the Nintendo Wii U. Some of these are advances on previously made products while others are new gadgets – and the first in a long time for some companies. It will be interesting to see what new devices are released in 2013.
